Illinois Marriage Records

In Illinois, marriage records are not issued by the state Department of Public Health. Instead, you can request a certified copy of a marriage record from the county clerk in the county where the marriage took place. You can also order a copy of a marriage record online from an independent website which can provide a copy of this type of vital record for a fee.

In order for your request to be processed as quickly and efficiently as possible, you should be prepared to provide the following information with your request for a marriage record:

ID Required to Order Marriage Records in Illinois

All orders for marriage records in the state must be accompanied by government issued photo ID. A driver’s license or state-issued ID card may be use for this purpose. If you don’t have either type of identification, you will need to provide two pieces of identification, such as a bill showing your other piece of mail. The other may be any one of the following:

The cost to order a marriage record in Illinois is $5.00. This amount is non-refundable if the record you are seeking cannot be located.

Include a check or money order payable to the “Illinois Department of Public Health” with your order and a photocopy of your photo ID. Once your order has been received, allow four-six weeks for processing before it will be mailed out to you.

Order Marriage Records by Fax

The state does accept orders by fax. Along with the standard $5.00 fee, you will be charged a $10.00 credit card handling charge and a $19.50 UPS charge.

If you would like to order a record by fax, include your credit card number and expiry date, your daytime phone number, and a written signature. You will also need to provide a copy of your photo ID and your address for your order to be processed.
