Virginia marriage records can be ordered from the Department of Health’s Office of Vital Records. The state gives residents the option of ordering records by mail, in person, or online. The Vital Records Office accepts cash, checks, and money orders for orders placed in person. The Office does not accept credit or debit cards for orders placed personally.

The state does not process orders for marriage records directly, but has arranged for a separate payment processing company to take over this function. You can place an order for a marriage certificate online, but you will be charged an additional handling fee along with the standard amount charged to conduct a search for a vital record.
